How to Find Parking in Laguardia Airport

by Martin Donowan

If you don’t drive in New York City much you may be worried about parking at Laguardia Airport because of heavy traffic or road rage.

Don’t give up and spend money on a taxi or limousine, though. There are a lot of parking options at the airport. A few simple tips can make it much easier to find parking there. This airport has a lot of parking choices that the first-time visitor may not know about. Following are a few of them:

The first option is to have someone drive you to the airport; they can park in metered parking. Laguardia Airport has metered parking at Marine Air Terminal. Two hours is the maximum you can park there. This is enough time to get your baggage back and forth from the car.

In that case you want to use short term parking at the Airport. There are seven garages or lots where you can do this (each has handicapped spots). There’s one near each terminal at Laguardia Airport New York so if you pick this choice you’re never far from your flight. This is the best type of parking for short trips, but it’s not a good selection for longer ones, because after the first day they start charging thirty dollars a day.

Laguardia Airport New York does have one long-term parking lot, though, and it’s right in the middle of the airport near the central terminal building. Shuttle buses pick up and drop off about every 15 minutes, so you don’t have to worry about walking far from this parking. The Airport has set a price of $30 for the first 24 hours and $5 for every 8 hours afterwards, so choose this lot if you’re going to leave your car there for more than a day.

Disabled people have special rates for parking at the airport. In fact, the handicapped rates at the Airport are much less than the normal rates so if you’re traveling with someone with a handicapped tag you can expect to pay far less than the above-referenced prices.

Parking at Laguardia Airport can be paid for with cash, check, or credit card, including American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, Carte Blanche and Discover. The airport also accepts EZPass, which is a quick and convenient way to pay for parking.

One final choice is to leave your car at a lot which is offsite from the Airport. There are many such options, including Central Parking and Airpark. They charge less than the official Laguardia parking and they’ll pick you up and drive you back from the terminal as needed, so it’s a decent way to save money on parking.

As you can see, parking at Laguardia Airport offers enough different choices that anyone can find a workable solution to this issue.
