SDTV or HD Television, Which One Is Better?

by Matt Risner

When it comes to television, more and more people prefer having HD televisions in their living rooms instead of SDTV, which is now fast becoming a thing of the past. SDTV or otherwise known as Standard Definition Television, which we witnessed rise as far back as 1970′s refers to those television systems which are not enhanced or not high definition.

This only means that the image shown on the screen of an SDTV is ragged in comparison with a HD television which has twice the linear resolution of the former. Hence, having HD television at home gives the viewer the feeling as if he is really there in the movies or television shows that he is watching. The fact that most of HD televisions are released with wider screens all the more boosts the viewing pleasure of the viewer.

You maybe wondering why television shows do not look good when you are using your SDTV or when you are playing your video games. This is because television networks and makers of cool gadgets like iPod, Xbox 360, Playstation, AppleTV have agreed to deliver media in HD Television format.

HD Televisions enjoy preference in the latest gadgets that can be attached to it. This is with reference to game consoles and media players such as Xbox 360, Sony Playstation, Nintendo Wii, iPod and AppleTV. No wonder members of the family from all ages prefer this unit.

Setting aside the standardization of the television format by television networks and gadget manufacturers, HD television in itself is a good technology in itself. Aside from the fact that it can show sharp and lifelike images, it also comes with pretty nice features that a standard TV doesn’t have or will never come in par with. Some of this feature would be the amazing sound quality of HD television.

An HD television can oftentimes shake the whole room with its sound making the whole viewing experience realistic. It can also surf two or three channels at the same time. It has features which enable the viewer to automatically select a color format or sound format to his liking. In other words, HD television is more convenient and fun to use compared to SDTV.

In picking the right HD television, it is advised that you pick the ones with a larger screen. This is because with HD television, the wider the screen, the better quality that it will yield.

And that’s it. You are good to go. These three things are just one of those factors that affect the quality of the video in HD Television.

You can buy an HD television virtually everywhere. However, there maybe variation in prices due to features, sizes, brands and quality.
