Storing Everything for Summer

This summer we will be going on a three month trip to Europe.  Now, I have been saving for this a very long time, and I have just about enough money saved to make it a reality.

While going over the numbers, I realized that I had forgot something important - I had not considered that I would need to pay rent while I was there!

Now, if I needed money for both rent and utilities while on vacation, there was no way that I was going to be able to go.  But I thought that if I could find somewhere I could rent a self storage unit, then I would have greatly reduced expenses while I was gone.

So, I looked through the phonebook and called a number of suppliers of rent storage units.  After going through their offers I was able to rent a self storage unit at a great price.  Now, all I need to do is find someone with a truck - I don’t have one of those either.

Looking at Environmentally Friendly Power

One of the trends that have noticed lately is that my power bill has been slowly creeping up each month over the past year.  I don’t think that I’m really using any more power, but I have noticed that the rate I pay per kilowatt hour has been increasing.

It is got to the point where I am seriously considering installing a solar power system on my home and the eliminating my reliance on the power grid.  I know that the investment initially will be a bit of money, but I know that I should recover my investment in less than 10 years.

I’ve been using some online calculators in an attempt to determine how much power my home uses and in turn many solar panels that I will need.  I’ve been getting many different numbers so I think I will be talking to professional to see what they think.

I am hoping to get my new solar powered system in place before summer because once I turn on my air conditioner I know that my power bill will go through the roof.

Can You See The Difference?

A buddy of mine recently asked me to do a comparison between two different essays that he had.  What he did was ask me which one he wrote out of the two -a taste test of sorts.

He handed me a law essay and a history essay for me to read.  They were both very well-written and I found on to be both educational and engaging.  But I still had to decide which one he wrote.

Stephen I have been friends for a long time and we used to copy off each other in elementary school.  So I had a pretty good idea of his writing style and quite honestly both essays looked like he wrote them.  I decided to go with the history essay as the one he wrote.

He was very pleased because the one I picked was a custom essay he bought off the Internet.  If the quality of essays provided online is similar or better to what you can write yourself, I don’t really see the need or desire to write my own essays for college anymore.

The Differences Between Now and Then

It does not seem like very long ago that I was preparing to go to college. It also amazes me at how much has changed since then. My granddaughter is preparing now and she has to write an application essay to get in. I certainly don’t remember doing anything of the sort back when I went to school.

In fact, I was well into my first year of college before I had to write my first research paper and now they hand them out to students like candy. I think that when I was in college, there were a lot more exams and classes were shorter. I got my teachers degree in only two years and now it takes four. I do not know if they teach them more or if they learn at a slower pace.

Students nowadays can also opt to write an online essay. Back in my day, we did not even have electric typewriters, let alone a computer with Internet access. I find that everything is so rushed today because of this. We spent so much time in the library and students today tend to spend more time in the computer lab.

Better Things to Do with my Time

If there was one thing that I hated in high school more than anything, it was writing book reports. I felt that it was a total waste of time and I didn’t really gain anything by doing them. I never got good marks on them, but then, I never really put a lot of effort into them either.

If I had my choice, I would not have gone on to further my education after high school, but my mother was determined that I was going to go to college, so I really had no choice in the matter. I told her that she could write the stupid admission essay for me and that earned me a smack upside the head.

When I got to college, I found someone who offered to write me a custom essay for a small fee. I took him up on his offer and now, four years into it, I still use his services. I will soon have a degree and I never wrote one single essay while in college. It just goes to show how useless these kinds of things really are.

A Change of Opinion

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the opinion that financial advisors are just out to get your money.  I would have to say that I came up with this opinion thanks to my parents who have always been skeptical of anyone who offered financial advice.

While browsing through the paper yesterday at breakfast, I read the daily article supplied to the paper by one of the financial advisers in our city.  Usually, the articles I read in the paper just serve to reinforce my opinion about financial advisors.  But today, the article was a little different.

The author, Michael Dinich, was talking about how "your money matters" to them.  It was his opinion that his customers were not numbers, but rather friends who he tried to get the best return on their investments for them.  He went on to talk about how being a financial advisor was about developing relationships with your clients and serving their needs, not your own.

I was somewhat shocked but encouraged that I might have been wrong about financial advisors.  Obviously they are not all out to get your money and many of them, just like Michael Dinich, are there to help you have a brighter and prosperous future.

A Boring Circus

I had the opportunity to go see a circus yesterday.  Since I went the first time when I was a child, I have always been fascinated with going to the circus and I make a point of going to it every time that it is in town.

As I sat in anticipation, waiting for the show to start, I thought of all the great shows that I had seen in my lifetime and I just couldn’t wait to watch it this time.  I thought of my favorite performance of all time when the fire jugglers and stiltwalkers put on a show together.  There is just something that is amazing when people are throwing fire back and forth while on stilts.

But as it turned out, my day would end with disappointment.  You see, due to new insurance regulations, they were no longer able to have many of the "riskier" shows that they did in the past.  Sometimes, I often wonder if it will get to the point where there is nothing fun left that can be shown at a circus anymore.

Remembering the Day

My daughter just entered her first year of college and it brought me back to the time that I went to college. Through my daughter, I was able to relive the feeling of being excited about being on my own, about meeting new people and even about the coursework that would be involved.

The first week she came home with a list of the essays that she was going to have to do for her classes, she seemed a little bummed, but I assured her that it would not be as bad as it seemed. After all, if I made it through college, she certainly would.

It did not take her long before she had essay writing down to an art form and now she has a little bit of free time to go out and enjoy those new friends that she is making. She is really enjoying the experience and I hope that she comes out of it with as fond of memories as I did.

Three Names but Only One Result

If I learned anything in college it is that one thing can have multiple ways that you can describe it.  Take for example an owl: it can be described as an owl or a bird.  In this respect, sometimes there can be a lack of communication or understanding of certain terms.

This virtually became a problem for me when I started college as are so many new terms and names for assignments that each professor chooses to use.  My favorite example would be when I was assigned to do an essay for my English class, a dissertation for my psychology class, and write a thesis for my sociology class.

At that point, I was freaking out thinking that I had a ton of work ahead of me.  As it turns out, I was assigned the task of writing three papers for three classes which really was not bad at all.  So before jumping to conclusions, find out the definitions of words and you might find that what you thought was bad really isn’t that bad at all.

Many Options for Completing an Essay

Today’s students have many more options when it comes to ways to complete an assignment.  Unlike the olden days, students typically do not do assignments and essays on their own.  There’s more collaboration compared to the past when it comes to dissertation writing, but there are some pitfalls as well.

With collaboration, a student has to make sure that their work is unique and not just a copy of another students essay.  Sure, there can be some common elements, but other than that it should not be a word for word reproduction of another essay.

There’s also been an increasing number of students who order custom research papers online.  Though outsourcing in the real world is acceptable, if a student was to buy research papers and get caught, the consequences are usually disastrous.

Just like with every other stage in life, students need to weigh the future costs of their actions and make the best choice for their circumstances.
