My Business Website

Awhile ago, I decided to build a website to promote my accounting business. I was looking for new clients and I wanted an easy way for the clients that I already had to contact me. I decided that setting up a website was the way to go.

I gave it my best, but I was less than thrilled with the results. It was not a pretty website by all means. I decided that it would be a better idea if I hired someone who knew what they were doing to help me build a nice looking site.

As the company needed a little bit of updating, I hired a professional logo design service to redo my logo, so that I could put it up on the website. Between the logo design service and the IT that I hired to build my site, it was very expensive. I do have a very nice and professional looking site, though, so it was all worth it.

Getting Started Online

When I first started my own business, I wanted to start a blog about it. I knew that it was a way for me to keep track of what I was doing in the business and it was also a way to promote my business to the online world.

I went to a friend, who seems to know everything about computers and asked how to start a blog. He was very helpful and before I knew it, my blog was online and I was having a lot of fun with it. It boosted my business greatly and it got me to thinking about other options I could utilize the Internet for.

I went back to my friend for some affiliate marketing help. He showed me several things that I could do to promote my business and I got busy on it right away. I was having so much fun that it hardly seemed like I was working at all.

Trying out New Web Hosting

For the longest time, I have relied on paid web hosting services to host my websites.  I figured that it would be the best way to go since I figured that I would get good support with my sites, and for the most part, that was true.

But I have been increasing the size of my website network, and it has been difficult to keep up with my hosting needs.  I have outgrown pretty much every hosting package that I currently have, but since I am reinvesting all my money back into the business, I don’t have a lot of money to spare.

So, I have decided that I would try a different approach with some of my newer sites.  If I know that they are not going to be high traffic websites, and that they will not be my primary money sites, I have started to use a free web host for them.

The free hosting will hold me over until I make enough money to buy more hosting - but still allow me to make money from the sites.

Working Late

I usually like to go to bed at ten, but it looks like it won’t be a possibility tonight.  You see, I am about to launch a new website, and the possibility of making some good profits is worth staying up late for.

I have most of the website designed thanks to the quick and easy web design software that I have been using.  It has made taking my design that I drew out on paper to a coded site quite simple.  It is the first time that I have used the software, and I think that my days of coding sites by hand will be something of the past.

But I just have a little bit left to do before the site can go live.  But thanks to a DHTML menu builder that I downloaded, I expect to be ready to upload the site to the Internet in the next hour or so.  It will just be nice to be done, and see the finished product of the site that I started only a couple of hours ago.  I just can’t wait!

File Sharing Through Mobile Devices

If you are a tech junkie or even just like to keep up with the most current gadgets, you probably know how to use your mobile phone or other equipment to look at websites on line share email and do other things like file sharing.

Well, did you know that you can actually set up your own mini site of sorts that can be viewed by almost anyone worldwide both on mobile devices and a computer - and it is free? Well, you can! There are several ways to do it and a few reliable companies out there as well.

One of the fun features of this type of mobile website is the mobile file sharing option. It makes sharing files of all sorts really easy. You could share with your relatives across the world or your friend down the street. It would be a great way for you set up information or offer a family a way to take a poll on the next family picnic site.

Banning my Child from the Computer

Imagine my surprise today when I found my fourteen year daughter browsing through profiles on a free online dating site.  The first thought through my head was how could my little baby even consider using a website like this?  Didn’t she know that there were risks?

Well, I asked her bluntly how long she had been using these types of sites and it turns out that she had been using the one that I caught her on for three months.  We asked her if she had met anyone in real life from the site and she said yes - though she didn’t have a relationship with any of them.

We made her delete her account and then grounded her from the computer for the next three months.  Though she will be mad at us for a long while, we have to do what needs to be done to protect our daughter.

A Good Place for Friends

I will admit that I have a long way to go when it comes to understanding the Internet. I have been trying though and I think that I have learned a lot in a short time. I have even started some of my own websites. I am not just winging it, as my few sites are about things that I have at least a little knowledge about.

The latest thing I did was start my own health forum. It is something that everyone always needs to talk about and I think a forum is a great place to have your questions answered if you are too scared to talk to your doctor about it. Chances are that there is someone out there that knows exactly what you are going through.

It has gone over very well and I have even learned a lot from it. I have also made some friends and I know I would feel comfortable talking to anyone on my forum about anything.

Understanding a Language I Don’t Know

I found a blog tonight that I wanted to read, but I couldn’t understand.  You see, from what I could gather, it had information pertaining to some new cutting edge OLED display technologies.

I tried to see if there was an English version available online, but sadly, none were available.  But I knew that there had to be someway that I could read it - I just had to look a little harder.

After doing a search for "translation service" I found a website that offered a free service online.  I thought it wouldn’t hurt to try it out.

After running the site through the translator, I was able to finally read what I had been looking for.  Sure, the English wasn’t perfect, but it was more than adequate for me to understand.  It was nice to finally read some cutting edge information about OLEDs instead of reading old news.  From now on, I will gladly use translation services if it allows me to read sites that I cannot normally read - they sure work better than I would have thought.

Web Developers Conference

As the owner of a small website development company, I get invitations to number Web developer conferences over the year.  Honestly, I can’t make it to all of them, but I do try to make it to at least a couple so that I can connect with other companies in my industry.

I recently attended a website developers conference in my hometown.  It wasn’t a very large event, but I do believe that I made some good joint venture partners through the connections I made there.  I’ve made a deal with one of the firms that was present to send them orders that are too large for me to handle in exchange for their orders that are too small for them to complete profitably.

We were also provided some free software tools to do graphics design that I will be trying out to see if they will help my business.  I won’t have time to attend another conference until the fall as summer time is the busy season for me.

Looking for a Quick Fix to Our Site

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be cheap.  You see, instead of hiring a professional website design firm, our company decided to hire a kid to do the work for us.  He had promised that he would be able to deliver a professional product and that our site would be easy to use and pleasing to the eye.

Boy was he wrong.

In the end, he skipped town and left us with a partially completed site.  This not only made us angry but put us in a position where we needed to do something fast or scrap the whole project.

Doing a quick search online for "web design New York" we were able to find a design firm that would be able to fix our little problem and return our site to an operational state.  Their prices were very reasonable and based on what they showcased in their portfolio I was not concerned with the quality of work that they would provide us.

It only took them two days to get our site fixed and we were very thankful for the professional quality of work that they’ve done for us.  We shouldn’t have been so cheap in the first place and I think we have learned our lesson.
