Doing the Right Thing

When I was going to high school I decided to earn a little bit of extra money by being a tutor.  I never thought this would lead me to offer essay assistance to college students.  I felt ill-equipped, but the customers I had seemed to think that the level I was on was good enough for them.

I had one particular customer that asked me for help with his psychology essay and this scared me half to death because I did not take psychology in high school.  He explained what the essay was to be about and I thought that it did not sound too bad after all.

Another particular customer offered to just buy essay papers for me rather than have me help him write his own.  He said that it would save them a lot of time and that he had no use for learning to write a proper essay anyway.  Though the offer was tempting, I could not do it, as I would just feel too guilty.

Oh, Happy Me

While I work on my dissertation at the college I attend, I am also working as a teacher’s assistant for one of my first year professors. I enjoy the job and it can do nothing but help me do a better job on my research and writing.

The professor is helping me with my research proposal and I am certain that she will also help me with my writing, should I need it.

I actually think that I have a great advantage because I have helped her go through other students thesis writing and I know a little bit more what is expected of me and I know more about what to write.

I also enjoy working with her first year students and it makes me glad that I made it through to where I am. Sometimes I feel like I am the happiest college student on this campus. I love what I do and the people that I know.

My First Year

When I graduated from college and was preparing for my first term as a grade school teacher, I did not realize how difficult it was going to be to come up with the coursework to teach my class. I figured that I would get a lot more help than I did and was so nervous that I would not fit everything that they needed to learn into one year.

I decided that for some things, I would have them write essays on their own time. This way, they could learn, but I would not have to take up classroom time to teach everything to them. This plan was going to work so great, but I did not anticipate all the time it was going to take me to mark all of these papers.

The next year, as I was a lot more relaxed, I gave the class much less term papers. I knew what I had to teach and how I was going to fit it all in. I had so much more time left for myself the second year and decided that I might be good at this job after all.

Selling Paintball Supplies Online

I have been an avid paintballer for many years and I have been wondering for some time if there was a way that I can make money from my hobby.  I considered creating a video series on tactics and strategies that guaranteed victory and paintball match but I really didn’t want to start a video myself.

So that idea went out the window and I was back at square one.  A friend of mine suggested that I could sell paintball guns online, drop ship them, and make a hefty profit.

I took my friend’s advice and looked around to find a supplier as well as a company that would design a website for me.  It only took a couple months and I found myself being the proud owner of a paintball supplies website.  There is nothing more exciting than getting that first sale and knowing for the first time that my hobby was making money - not costing it.

Last Minute Ticket Deals

I am a procrastinator.  I can admit it.  But honestly, procrastination gets me in a lot of trouble, and I have a good example for you of what happened this week.

You see, my wife had her eyes on going to a weekend concert event that wasn’t too far from our hometown.  It was a weekend of country music - something that she loves and I hate.  She instructed me to go buy event tickets for her and my sister so that they could go.

I thought if I could wait until the last minute, I could get her a screaming deal on the tickets.  I know that in the past when I have wanted some good deals on concert tickets, I have done that and everything works out okay.

Well, I was wrong.

As it turned out, the even sold out.  I was lucky enough to find a website that had deals on tickets at the last minute and I was able to get her some.  But if I hadn’t been able to get the tickets, I think I would have been in deep trouble with my wife, which is never good.

Better Things to Do with my Time

If there was one thing that I hated in high school more than anything, it was writing book reports. I felt that it was a total waste of time and I didn’t really gain anything by doing them. I never got good marks on them, but then, I never really put a lot of effort into them either.

If I had my choice, I would not have gone on to further my education after high school, but my mother was determined that I was going to go to college, so I really had no choice in the matter. I told her that she could write the stupid admission essay for me and that earned me a smack upside the head.

When I got to college, I found someone who offered to write me a custom essay for a small fee. I took him up on his offer and now, four years into it, I still use his services. I will soon have a degree and I never wrote one single essay while in college. It just goes to show how useless these kinds of things really are.

Earning through College

I am currently working very hard to write the best thesis essay that my professor has ever seen.  I know that I can do it as I have always been a great student and writing just comes to me naturally.  In fact, being a writer would have been my second choice of careers if I was not doing this.

Before I started working on my dissertation, I made a little bit of extra money by tutoring young students who are just entering college and were having a tough time being away from home for the very first time.  I made some great friends and they made me see how grateful I was that I never had problems in school.

A few of the students that I tutored, offered to pay me a lot of money if I would just write them some custom term papers.  I knew I couldn’t do this as my conscience would bother me for the rest of my life.  I wish I could’ve helped the more but I feel that helping them to help themselves, was in the end, the best that I could do for them.

Lessons from My Grandmother

As a child, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother while my parents were working.  We were able to develop a special bond, and she shared a lot of her life experiences with me.  Some of her stories were a little crazy, but I did learn a lot of good life skills from her.

My grandmother had a green thumb and we spent a lot of time outside tending to her garden.  I think she must have had the biggest garden on the block as both her front and back yards didn’t have any grass, they were just gardens.

It was in her garden that I would learn how to distinguish what garden equipment I needed depending on what we were trying to grow.  She taught me how to hill potatoes, weed quickly without killing everything, and how to grow the biggest pumpkins that I’ve ever seen.

I am now getting to the age where I have the opportunity to pass the same lessons that my grandmother taught me onto my children.  I hope someday that they appreciate what they learned from me and have a garden of their own.

A Change of Opinion

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the opinion that financial advisors are just out to get your money.  I would have to say that I came up with this opinion thanks to my parents who have always been skeptical of anyone who offered financial advice.

While browsing through the paper yesterday at breakfast, I read the daily article supplied to the paper by one of the financial advisers in our city.  Usually, the articles I read in the paper just serve to reinforce my opinion about financial advisors.  But today, the article was a little different.

The author, Michael Dinich, was talking about how "your money matters" to them.  It was his opinion that his customers were not numbers, but rather friends who he tried to get the best return on their investments for them.  He went on to talk about how being a financial advisor was about developing relationships with your clients and serving their needs, not your own.

I was somewhat shocked but encouraged that I might have been wrong about financial advisors.  Obviously they are not all out to get your money and many of them, just like Michael Dinich, are there to help you have a brighter and prosperous future.

Professional Traveler

When I was starting my own business I wanted to do something unique and I wanted it to be something that did not have a lot of competition involved. I brainstormed for over two years before I came up with a job that was so unique and so perfect that I knew I needed to get started right away.

For my job, I offer people travel services. That is, I will escort people on trips if they have a disability and cannot make it on their own. I also drive senior citizens, who do not drive themselves, around the country to see their kids and friends. I get to see the country a little bit, while earning a living, and I am still helping people out.

Just a few months ago, I escorted an elderly lady to England for two weeks and got paid for it. I can’t think of anything else I would rather do and I really think that this job was genius. I don’t think I will ever tire of it.
