One of the most powerful selling techniques is scarcity. This was brought home to an online friend of mine recently when she attended an Internet marketing training held near her home. This event was not only close by, but was free.

Naturally there was a big catch, but she didn’t know what it was going to be until about three-quarters of the way through the day. The main focus was on converting everyone there from Linux web hosting to asp.net web hosting. And if anyone signed up that day at the event, he or she would get a steep discount on a year’s service.

My friend rushed to sign up. For a time all was well. Then the sales pitches for add-on services started coming. She couldn’t cancel her email subscription without canceling the service which she was now committed to for a year. It’s so true. You get what you pay for.

For as long as I can remember, my cousin has owned a window company that mainly deals with auto glass.  When I was ready to do the renovations on my home I decided to give him a call and get his take on replacing all of the windows in my home.  I wasn’t sure if he dealt with this but I thought if he didn’t, he would probably be able to give me the name of someone who does.

He told me that he himself did not install replacement windows in homes but that he would have no problem ordering the windows for me at wholesale prices if I could find someone to install them.  This was more than I had hoped for and I decided that I would go ahead and order them and look for an installer when they arrived.

I asked him what he thought would be the best thing for me to order and he suggested that I buy vinyl windows as he has heard great things about them.  I went ahead and gave him all the measurements and I will soon have a house full of new windows.

What I was going to medical school I decided that I wanted to specialize in sleeping disorders.  Many members of my family suffer from sleep apnea and I knew it was something that I wanted to research into more.  During that time I wanted to see if I could make a sleep apnea machine that was better than the ones my family is at home.

I contacted a CPAP supply company to get all the parts that I would need to build my own machine and experiment a little bit on what would work and what would not.  I purchased the parts and some extras so that I could make a machine that had improvements over what was currently on the market.

I did end up building a CPAP machine that worked just fine and I had my sister try it out and she thought it was great.  I took it before the board to see if I could get a patent on it but is very depressing to find out that they could not mass-produce these machines as it would cost them about four times more than what it costs them to make the ones they make now.

Oh well, it was worth a try, right?

I remember many years ago before I was married my boyfriend told me about this amazing person that he had seen on the Oprah show.  Apparently, this man wrote books on relationships and my boyfriend was awed and amazed at how intelligent and informed that he was on the subject.

We all know now that this was Dr. Phil and I follow Dr. Phil advice to a tee.  That boyfriend, is now my husband and we religiously watch the Dr. Phil show together every day.  It is one way for us to learn better communication with each other as well as spend time together even if that hour is all we get.

I have seen way too many people in bitter and unhappy relationships and I promised myself a long time ago that I would never be one of these people.  I am not saying that every day with my husband has been roses and cherries, but our relationship is something we take very seriously and is something we will always work very hard on.

How do you think that people like celebrities get lingerie, clothing, or makeup lines when they have no experience with design or manufacturing?

They work with those who produce that item to either design what they like or choose from a pre designed line of items that they can slap their “name” on. It is done all over the world and from small companies to large multinational corporations.

Wholesale lingerie as well as private label cosmetics are easy to find if you know where to look and what to look for.

This is even somewhat how it works within companies that are really large. Victoria’s Secret probably has an army or at least a hand full of designers who come up with ideas just for their lines. But maybe that same designer has other ideas that don’t work for VS at the moment. He could potentially sell them to another company.

Sometimes there are exclusive rights involved, that means one company gets sole rights to a particular design. This option probably costs more in the end though.

Mr. Rogers used to sing a little ditty he wrote: “Everything grows together, because you’re all one piece. Your ears grow as the rest of your grows because you’re all one piece.” Then it goes on to name one more piece that grows, in this cumulative song.

This point was brought home to me recently when I injured my knee and started having pain in my hip. I didn’t really understand it, but my chiropractor does, and so I’m in good hands. I’m still hoping I won’t need any “bionic” replacements any time soon.

A friend in Anaheim, however, was telling me on Skype a month ago that she was in so much pain she could hardly think straight some days due to knee and hip pain. While we were chatting, I searched online for hip and knee replacements in Orange County. She emailed me today that she’s already had surgery and has started therapy. I told her I could now introduce her as “My friend, the bionic woman.”

During the past few months, we have purchased a number of real estate properties that we are looking to flip.  So, we have been doing renovations on most of the houses, including building a couple of wood decks.

As we get closer to completion, we still have a few tasks left.  One of them is picking which deck stains to use.  Unfortunately for us, my partner and I have different ideas when it comes to what we should get, so we will need to come to a compromise.

We are also looking at hiring a deck cleaning crew to take care of the rest of the properties that have decks that don’t need work, so that the properties look pristine when we go to sell them.

Even though we still have quite a bit of work left to do, it is a good feeling when you are getting close to completion.  Now, if we could just decide as to which deck stain to buy… everything would be perfect.

The company that I work for is looking to sell some of the heavy equipment at an auction here in town.  You see, most of our Bobcats are getting older and it is time to upgrade to newer equipment.  By selling the existing equipment, it will offset the costs associated with purchasing new Bobcats.

What is particularly exciting is that the auction house that we will be selling our products through will also be offering the sale online as well.  So, we have hired a commercial photographer to take pictures of our items for sale for the Internet listings.

We felt that using a professional to take the photographs that they could show the highlights of our Bobcats, and in turn, increase the final auction value.

The auction will be next weekend, and it will be interesting to see what price our Bobcats will fetch.  All I can say is that it will be nice to have some new equipment for a change.

I have never been a fan of loud noises.  In fact, I would say that I have never really been a fan of noise at all.  Not only does a lot of noise annoy me, but I find that it causes me a lot of stress.  So I try to avoid noisy situations whenever I can.

But as we all know, avoiding noisy situations all the time is just not a realistic goal.  I have tried so many times to get rid of all that noise coming from the road in front of my house with little luck.  Not only has the ear plugs failed, my fan didn’t mask the sounds, and keeping the windows closed has not worked.

So in desperation, I went to the store to see if I could find anything that would help.  I purchased a white noise machine and brought it home to try out.

Guess what?  It worked.

Not only is my place silent, but I love it.  It is like I have died and gone to heaven.
