Staying on Top of Changes in the Auto Industry

The up and down economy has left it’s mark on the car industry. Automakers and dealerships, struggling to move their inventories, have been forced to deal with tighter credit terms, a smaller pool of prospective car buyers, and other difficult circumstances. For those that are experienced in car shopping, that opens the possibilities to excellent opportunity. As dealers become more motivated to extend generous terms to consumers, buyers can uncover surprisingly attractive bargains.

Below, we’ll explore 3 ways in which the auto industry is changing. I’ll explain how these modifications affect the price and deals that are available to the educated and informed consumer.

#1 - Automakers Have Excess Inventories

Sales of new cars, trucks, and SUVs have been plummeting for the past year. Because of the situation, car dealerships are having a difficult time selling their inventory. Further, ports are becoming stacked with inventory that the dealership lots are unable to accommodate.

The auto industry is similar to any economic market, when supply is high, prices are reduced. If you are int he market for a new automobile, now it a great time to negotiate favorable loan terms. Generous rebates, low-interest financing, and other incentives are creating a rare buyer’s market.

#2 - Credit Is Tight, But Only For Some

One of the circumstances that has had a significant impact on the automotive industry is the tightening of credit. Banks are wary of extending auto loans to subprime borrowers. If your credit score is dismal, you’ll find it difficult to secure financing. However, if your score is above 700, many banks and dealerships will be happy to offer an auto loan with a competitive interest rate.

In fact, the dwindling pool of prospective buyers with good credit has become more valuable than ever to automakers and car dealerships. Many of them are willing to offer fantastic incentives in addition to a low rate.

#3 - Lease Payments Are Increasing

The lease market has undergone a dramatic change over the past year. Long ago, you could lease a vehicle with monthly payments far below what you would pay to own the same model. In effect, you could drive what you couldn’t afford to purchase. Today, most car manufacturers have forced a substantial increase in lease payments.

The reason is due to the glut of inventory. As the leased cars leases expire, deals must attempt to sell them as pre-owned car at a profit, which is now more difficult. The increase in monthly lease payments compensate them for the lost revenue. An unexpected corollary is that you can uncover great used car bargains by shopping the vehicles which have recently come off their leases.

The automotive industry will continue adapting to the rough economic times ahead. For savvy buyers, that means exciting bargains in the new and used car markets.

Searching For Discount Auto Parts?

Since I was a teenager, I’ve always enjoyed working on my own cars and trucks.  Decades ago it could be a challenge making repairs to the family car.  Although in most cases older cars were easier to work on, it was always a problem finding accurate vehicle information.  It seemed no matter how many versions of Chilton’s guides I had, they never had the information I needed.  Without technical training, it was sometimes a challenge finding the correct part, auto performance part or car or truck accessory.

As time went by, I fell into the trap that many back yard mechanics do.  Many people told me newer cars were were beyond the scope of the backyard mechanic due to computerized systems.  As a result, regular maintenance began to be a hit and miss thing at best.  Talking to many of my neighbors in recent years has shown that many of us fell into this trap.

But in recent years, this has all changed.  Now you only have to fire up your PC and search the web and you’ll find all the technical information you need right at your fingertips.  The biggest benefit I’ve found for backyard mechanics is the availability of discount auto parts.  No more going to a local auto parts store, waiting in long lines to purchase a car or truck part that isn’t available.  Today, you can easily find OEM replacement parts at discount prices right on the internet.  The biggest benefit is that you’ll find in most cases you can have your auto parts or performance parts delivered to your door and still save money over traveling to your local store.  Depending upon the size town you live in, you might have a couple auto parts stores available and the larger chain stores do offer competitive pricing.  But the down side is the time wasted in traveling and getting counter service.  I’ve waited many hours through the years waiting only to find the shop didn’t have what I needed in stock.

All of that is a thing of the past.  Today the web makes home auto repairs easier then ever before.  You can easily find vehicle specific information and detailed answers to any questions you might have on the countless forums on the web.  So comparison shopping for a specific part or auto performance part is a breeze.  Plus you’ll find most of the web stores show you if the item is in stock.  Recently I wanted to change brake pads in a Chevy.  So I visited my favorite online auto parts store and found Chevy auto parts with no problem.  In two days time I had Hawk brake pads delivered to my door and actually saved over $50 compared to my local shops.  But the additional benefit is I didn’t have to waste any time shopping locally.

So I suggest the next time you consider doing some work on your own car or truck, start your project off by searching the web for answers to any questions and great discount auto parts.

The Perils Involved in Buying Pre-owned Car Spares

If you are searching for car parts, there are quite a few ways that one can find the components that are necessary. Some methods are safe, and will cause no problems. But then again, some of the ways that auto spares are acquired are plain dangerous. One representative example of this is purchasing second-hand auto spares from a junk yard, or auto repair shop. All of these places usually trade used automobile spares that can be used when fixing your auto. What’s alarming, though, is the fact that some places sometimes put used car parts in a car that’s going to be repaired, too, just in order to save the automobile repair place a little bit of money. But here are some of the hazards of purchasing used auto parts if you aren’t knowledgable about them.

1. The History

When purchasing anything that’s second-hand you seldom know the history of the product. The same holds true for auto spares, unfortunately. Consider that when you buy car spares from a scrap yard you rarely know if that part has been through an car wreck and is a good enough part to put on your car. Even though most of the auto spares that can be obtained through a junk or salvage yard are bought at your own risk and without a warranty, there are some serious dangers associated with doing this.

2. Are They Reliable?

As remarked, used automobile spares can also be purchased from car repair shops. The reality at most auto repair shops is that the used car spares that are there are commonly held in one great pile in the back of the repair shop. If you buy a second-hand alternator from them then how would you know if it’ll last? It is really likely that the automobile spares that are bought from a repair shop are no good, or else if they are halfway decent car spares they may just fail next week. The car spares that can be obtained through an auto repair shop or a salvage yard are just too unsafe to justify purchasing. Naturally, you may very well be offered a refund or exchange if this were to happen, but the best course of action would be to keep away from used auto parts completely.

3. Being Cheated
Another possibility, and perhaps the worst danger, is the definite risk of being cheated when buying used car parts. You might be sold components that are different from how they are described, or that are older and more damaged than you are led to believe. It matters little whether the auto spares are for a pre-owned Kia or a secondhand Saab , you need to be sure that you are purchasing an actual manufacturer made component.

Even if you don’t buy the used automobile spares through a repair shop or a junk yard, if you do buy used automobile spares through a private dealer then you are always at risk of getting downright ripped off. What is even more worrying is the fact that you may not be able to get a hold of the person ever again.

In The Long Run, it doesn’t matter much whether or not the auto part really does work or not. The simple fact is that buying used automobile spares is simply dangerous. Even though loads of people engage in this practice daily, purchasing used car spares should be discouraged!

Save Money With Budget Auto Rental

Many people rent cars for vacations, business trips, temporary replacement for a car in the shop, or even for use a few days a week when public transportation is otherwise used.  There are many car rental companies to choose from that doing car rental comparisons is a wise move.  Budget is one of the most well known.  So many people consider Budget auto rentals.  The name also helps create the connection between renting from that company and the lowest price.  It’s great for marketing even if not necessarily the case.

Budget doesn’t only rent cars.  It also rents trucks used by people for moving, hauling materials and gear for business, and a variety of other purposes.  Comfort and style are key to Budget trucks.  They’re set apart from other truck fleets by features such as A/C, power brakes and power steering.  What a relief compared to other trucks with bumpy, loud rides and practically no comforts.  Also there’s another benefit to choosing a Budget rental truck.  The interior has no bulge for a wheel well.  That adds to the storage in the truck and makes it easier to maneuver items through the interior.  When trucks have served their time as rentals, Budget sells them.  That leads to another great feature of Budget trucks.  They’re in great condition and often newer models.  A break down when a truck is needed isn’t fun.

It’s not convenient to own a car in cities like New York.  Excellent bus lines along with high costs of fuel and tolls leads to this decision.  But for some tasks people must have a vehicle.  It might be to run errands when carrying packages wouldn’t be practical on a bus or train.  Or it might be that they want a relaxing car ride.  This calls for a rental car  Budget rents some cars for $160 weekly which can’t be beat.  Even the cost of a rental car every weekend of the year, about $70 each weekend from Budget or from dollar car rental, would be cheaper than the cost of owning a car.  It’s just cheaper to rent if a car isn’t needed every day.

Run Your Car On Water, Not Over It

It is definitely possible to run your car on water but the question is, more or less, how much would it cost to make it run on water? Is there a way to learn how to convert your car to run on water the easy way? Yes, there is and as to the cost, it only runs around $200 whereas a hybrid car can cost up to $30,000, and this explains why many people are using it. On top of that, it is also cleaner and better for the environment to use water instead of running your car fully on gasoline. Water reduces your emissions and causes less global warming. So, not only you will be helping yourself economize but you can also be friendly to your environment. Actually, there are lots of various alternative ways to save money on fuel but with this kind of idea, you can even help save the only home you’ve got- Earth.

So, how do you run your car on water? For many years now, the idea of using water as fuel has been going through the minds of people. Actually, when you say “run car on water”, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can run your car on water ALONE. You still need a little amount of gasoline to make it work. Using your car battery for power, you can build a system to allow your car to electrolyze water and obtain Brown Gas (HHO) from it. When Brown Gas is combusted, this gas is able to provide energy for your car. There are some people who call this as HOD or Hydrogen-On-Demand. Sounds like very “hi-tech”, so to speak, right? But because of the demand for this knowledge, a lot of sites today on the Internet are willing to share their idea on how to run car on water. You may want to visit some of theses sites and see how easy it is to convert your car engine to run on water.

The German car brands still keep to grow, though the automotive world in general is in recess. The German manufacturer is not only doing well in Germany. In the first quarter of 2009, BMW Group continued to register growth in the Chinese Mainland market with a total of 16,580 BMW and MINI cars delivered  to the customers, representing 13.eight percent growth over the same period of last year (prev.yr.: 14,574 units).  Automotive expectations in the east are good, and Chinese people still are buying cars. But only 10% of the Chinese public is driving or owning a car. What would you think this will do to the environment if all Chinese own one or two cars. Luckily the Chinese government is trying to get people to buy only clean cars and reward it with half the taxes as would be payed normally.

Sales of the BMW brand automobiles in the Chinese Mainland increased by 14.four percent to 15,850 units, which includes 8,402 units BMW 3 Series and 5 Series cars are build in China. Sales of MINI cars rose by 1% in the Chinese Mainland to 730 units in the first quarter of 2009 (prev.yr.: 723 units).

In the whole Region China markets combining Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, the BMW Group delivered a total of 18,244 BMW and MINI brand automobiles in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 5.4% (prev.yr.:

17,317).

“Considering the current global difficult times, the Chinese auto market continues to be very resilient and recently showed signs of recovering the growth path. We achieved again double-digit growth for BMW and MINI vehicles sales for the first quarter, and good growth of 20.4% in the third month. Our new generation 7 Series will be one of the really good contributors to our sales throughout 2009 in China” said Dr. Christoph Stark, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China.

Kia Motors announced that its cee’d ranked in first place

Published by: iCar Automotive News

Kia Motors today announced that its cee’d ranked in first place in the Driver Power’s Compact Family category to beat out Volkswagen, Toyota, Fiat and other notable competitors in the segment. Driver Power is Auto Express’s car owner reliability and satisfaction survey which presents the frank and honest views of drivers in the UK.

“The fact that the Kia cee’d beat the Volkswagen Golf is one of the most significant results in Driver Power’s history,” said David Johns, Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, on announcing the debut performance of the Kia cee’d in the independent Driver Power survey.

In its Driver Power debut, cee’d jumped straight into the top ten and is ranked as the 6th best model overall.  Highest ranked in the C-segment class, Kia cee’d’s closest rival, the Volkswagen Golf, found itself in 22nd place overall.

David Johns added, “Kia’s class-topping result in Driver Power is proof of how far its cars have come in terms of quality and reliability, as well as image.”  The cee’d result is underlined by an improved performance in the manufacturer’s ranking which sees Kia ranked as 12th overall this year, a jump of two places on last year’s result.

The independent annual Driver Power survey was carried out by Auto Express, in conjunction with the Daily Telegraph, and measured the views of over 21,400 new car drivers across the UK.  The cars they drive are scrutinised and scored on their performance in a number of key areas, including practicality, build quality, reliability, and running costs.

Paul Philpott, Managing Director, Kia Motors (UK) Ltd., said, “What a debut!Kia has come a long way and these results show our belief in the design, quality and value of our products.  But don’t take our word, our customers are doing the talking through the Driver Power survey.

“Yes, you can pay more for a Volkswagen Golf, but these results ask why.The Kia cee’d has dynamic design, high build quality and frugal engines, all backed by a seven-year 100,000 mile warranty and all for much less.”

Saturn SC2 Changes

Saturn SC2 is the short name from the sports coupe level of the first division of the Saturn auto produced at the beginning of the 90s. The introduction of the S Series by General Motors represented a marketing stratagem to lower the influence of the Japanese imports on the American market. With the success reputed by Saturn SC2, Japan and Taiwan actually began imports of these vehicles on their markets, which only proves that the fame General Motors reputed for the Saturn S Series was of international magnitude. Though no spectacular adjustments were made to the Saturn SC2 in time, the year 1999 saw the biggest of upgrades.

Saturn SC2 got a little lateral door often called the suicide door on the side of the driver. In the case of the SC design, this additional feature was a big change as it was a welcome change in the production of sports cars. Only cab pickup trucks had such a lateral door, and no other regular vehicle use one. Saturn SC2 was produced with little modifications afterwards until 2003 when General Motors replaced the S Series and launched their new sports car, Saturn Ion. The production of this latter model also came to a halt in 2007 as well when GM chose a new market approach.

In its category, Saturn SC2 represented the most fuel-efficient vehicle with a manual transmission. At the time when it was launched, the engine of Saturn SC2 required one gallon of fuel for forty miles according to the highway tests performed for the car. This initial engine was rated at only 124 horsepower, but in 1995 improvements became necessary to the initial SC model: thus, the producer incorporated a lid reflector in the trunk and further added a lower front bumper; yet the cabin decorations were not neglected either. Exterior design changes appeared with a second generation of SC2, which got more daring curve lines.

Reviews claim that Saturn SC2 was not very different from SC1, the latter only got black outside mirrors while the SC2 variant had them colored. Other features of the Saturn SC2 included a traction control system, an antibreak lock and standard fog lamps. Then, in terms of manual transmission, there were no changes between Saturn SC2 and SC1, and the same similarity was preserved in the dashboard look, daytime running lights and even wheelbase. Improvements were tributary to the Saturn sedan and station wagon designs.

So whether you doing comparing car rentals or you are in the market for a new car purchase, you cant go wrong with the Saturn Sc2.

What Is The Definition of Sports Car

A simple definition of a sports car is a tiny low automobile with a high-powered engine, and typically seats 2 folk. This is more or less a textbook definition but of what the public perceives to be a sports automobile. The Houghton Mifflin compendium outlines a sports vehicle as : An automobile supplied for racing, particularly an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger automobile having a low middle of gravity and steering and suspension designed for accurate control at high speeds. This dictionary definition does not appear to capture the general perception of what the public sees as a sports vehicle.

The Houghton Mifflin definition of the two seat rule seems out-of-date. Many sports autos today offer small back seats [ often called 2+2 seating ] and there’s a current movement in progress to extend the seats room in models long considered sports cars by most automotive experts.

Insurance companies use their own formula in classifying autos and often the presence of two doors automatically makes any car a sports automobile in their eyes. This perspective, of course, is as overly simplistic as the standard compendium approach to defining a sports vehicle. One can actually think of any number of 2 doorway automobiles far short of being a real sports auto. Economy vehicles and even bigger two-door automobiles that aren’t built with power and performance in mind should not qualify as true sports autos.

Some auto buffs will refer to high-performance muscle cars and other bigger autos as sports cars. draw a distinction between these autos and true sports cars. These people will claim an automobile could be a car can be a sporting car or simply sporty but still fall short of being a real sports automobile. So , regular vehicles might be equipped with a sports package and/or accessories to make the automobile sportier, but may not fit a strict definition of a sports automobile.

Not all auto fans embrace this restrictive view of sports cars. In numerous circles, a sports vehicle is any car is any car offering bigger performance or power than more standard offerings.

This school of thought will consider muscle cars and other larger vehicles designed with performance in mind as sports autos. Others will maintain the excellence between a sports car and any other kind of car lies in how the auto’s suspension and handling are addressed. Technical debates rage over if numerous suspension packages qualify as belonging to true sports cars. Some will disagree a sports auto can be outlined by its intentions. If the automobile is designed for performance more so than for application, they assert, it’s a sports vehicle.

This intent-based definition, provides small guidance in determining whether a car is a sports car or not.

Especially in the modern era, the notion of designing a vehicle of any sort without important consideration of its feasibility and use appears doubtful. Any commercially viable vehicle, regardless of its performance, must keep serious use. Road and Track, a leading automotive publication, summarises the sports card definition debate with a straightforward observation : Ask five people the precise definition of a sports car, and you’ll likely get five different answers. there’s no clear-cut definition of what truly is a sports automobile. The restrictive definitions of the past appear unwell suited to categorize today’s’ various automotive offerings and common usage of the term runs in contrast to most long-held definitions. There is, however, a common thought that appears to run through almost all the outlooks on the meaning of sports car. If a car is designed with high performance or race-like capacities to mind, it can doubtless be securely named a sports vehicle. Some purists may frustrate at such a liberal point of view, but alternative definitions fall far short of accurately distinguishing sports cars form regular production models.
